Nationwide Event Series: Certification under IDW PS 980 and ISO 37301 – How Companies Can Successfully Complete Readiness Checks, Suitability and Effectiveness Assessments

Ernst & Young (EY) will be hosting a series of Compliance Working Groups in September 2025 at three of its office locations across Germany: Mannheim, Rhein-Main, and Hannover. The events will focus on audits of compliance management systems (CMS) under the German audit standard IDW PS 980 and their certification in accordance with the international standard ISO 37301.

These certifications allow companies to have the adequacy and effectiveness of their CMS confirmed by independent experts. Such external assessments are not only a mark of professionalism and integrity, but also help build trust with stakeholders—including investors, customers, and regulators. In addition, they can reduce the risk of sanctions and reputational damage.

The sessions will explore the value of external assessments, how companies can prepare for them, and what the review process looks like in detail.

We are pleased that Dr. Ramona Höft, Partner at ROXIN Rechtsanwälte Part mbB, will be joining the Compliance Working Group in Hannover as a speaker. Drawing on her experience in white-collar crime investigations and court proceedings, Dr. Höft will examine from a criminal law perspective whether—and to what extent—audit certificates may have liability implications in cases of potential compliance violations.

This topic is particularly relevant for executive boards, supervisory boards, and compliance officers: Can a certified compliance management system offer legal protection in case of an incident—or does it introduce new organizational and documentation requirements?
